Jurni Animated Short Film Kickstarter Campaign

The Kickstarter Campaign

We are launching a Kickstarter campaign to create an animated short film of Jurni. Jurni was published as an illustrated children's book in 2020 to help kids, parents, teachers, and caregivers deal with grief and loss. Now, we want to tell the story through animation so it can be seen by a wider audience worldwide.

Check out the Kickstarter Campaign to make a pledge or share it with your friends.

Jurni was initially conceived as an animated short film, and now it has a chance to come to life. We contacted animation studios to partner with us in creating this film. We wanted a studio that was skilled and imaginative, but also one that believed in the story and spreading it across the globe.

We're happy to have found BluBlu Studios, an award-winning animation company with the help of Liz Shaw at Liz Laine Reps. They recently did animations for a film called Porcelain War which won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. You can see some of their work here in their portfolio.

With their help, we know we can make something amazing!

The Process:
Creating an animated film takes a lot of work. It's an art and a science with a big team of artists and illustrators. The overall process is below. Each phase comes with check-ins with the studio to give feedback on the film.

Pre-Production

  • Concept art (Characters and Background)
  • Storyboards
  • Animatic
  • Character sheets/final character design
  • Full-color scenes (including layouts and props)

Main Production

  • Animation
  • Clean-up
  • Coloring
  • Final compositing

Post-Production and Sound

  • Sound design
  • Custom Music
  • Mixing and mastering
  • Rendering

The estimate is four to five months from conception to completion of the film. We plan to share this at film festivals upon completion, which may delay the film's official launch with the backer community. But, this gives us a better chance to reach a wider audience and find the best distribution.

Rewards

We created tiers of rewards including access to the film, eBooks, activity sheets, being listed in the film's closing credits, and an exclusive work-in-progress viewing of the film!
